Kodiak Island Sportsman's Association

The KISA Board have been forced to close the Monashka Bay Outdoor Range until further notice at the request of the Kodiak Island Borough (KIB).  This is due to ricochet danger affecting both the Landfill area and some residential housing areas. The KISA Board is working with KIB to resolve the issues and create a range that is safe for shooters and reduces the ricochet dangers. This may be a long and costly process and the KISA Board will keep you all updated as we move forward.

Membership Meeting: Last Wednesday of each month, 6:00 p.m. at the Monashka Bay Indoor Range

If you are not sure when your membership expires, email the secretary with your name and key number and please allow 2 or 3 days for her to get back to you!

Thank you!

Thank you for visiting the Kodiak Island Sportsman's Association website. We are continually updating the schedules of shooting events and educational classes for 2010. As they are finalized, we will post them on our site. Please check back for the dates, times and locations of the Bowling Pin matches, Bullseye competition, High Power rifle matches, .22 Tactical matches, Center fire and Rim fire matches, possible steel challenge shoots and other events as they are presented.

KISA is a volunteer based, non-profit entity that owes a tremendous amount of thanks to everyone who volunteers their time and energy to KISA events and range duties. THANK YOU!!!!

We are looking forward to offer you consistent range hours and more shooting events. We are in the process of some changes, so please be patient and feel free to contact any of the directors with questions, comments, and suggestions. K.I.S.A. needs you, and, as fellow shooters, we need each other to keep shooting sports and ranges from becoming a thing of the past.  Thank you and we look forward to seeing at the range!!

Centerfire Rifle

A plate match consists of 4 strings of fire. An average of your best 3 will be your score.

A plate rack with 5 metallic plates will be set at 50 feet, your time begins when the Range Officer gives the command, and ends when the last plate falls.

We will be using an electronic timer for consistency and ease.

Most shooters find that 60 rounds per match is adequate.

Most commonly used calibers are 22lr, 9mm, 38spl, 40S&W, 45 ACP.

Center Fire Rifle is becoming more popular with the 9mm and 38spl carbines on the market.

This match is about time and speed, bring your fasted shooter and see how fast you really are!

More importantly this match is fun for all ages. We are all there to shoot and have fun.

Come out and enjoy!

The Coast Guard has contractual use of the Salonie Creek range on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It has been noted that several signs declaring their use on the range have been stolen. We realize that it is a small number of vandals who chose to do this and reflect badly on everyone else and we apologize for any misunderstanding or confusion this causes.

COAST GUARD RANGE USE:

10:00 PM Monday night through 4:00 PM Tuesday

10:00 PM Wednesday night through 4:00 PM Thursday

If you are having problems with you key(s) there is a core at Mack's to test them on. Occasionally vandalism causes problems with the locks. Thank you!

Please be responsible and help us keep the range clean. Pick up your trash and targets.

New events, please check the calendar for details!

KISA NEWS
During winter hours, the first Thursday of each month will be a designated "Ladies Night" where women shoot for free (members only). Men are still welcome but have to pay regular rates. If you are interested in pistol or rifle events, please check out the appropriate section on the site. We are doing our best to make sure it is as up to date and accurate as possible. We are currently looking for an Instructor(s) for the Junior Rifle Program. If you are interested in running this program, please email the Vice President for more information.
